How Large-Scale Stadium Construction and Renovation Sites Manage to Stay Clean and Organized

Have you ever walked or driven past one of these large-scale stadium construction sites and wondered how everyone and everything seems to stay on track, organized, and clean in what should be a disaster zone? Think about how even a small renovation or project in your home can quickly result in total, utter chaos and it’s incredible, how these large-scale projects not only forge ahead with what seems like very few speed bumps but also in a well-thought-out manner and it’s pretty incredible.

So, how do they manage it? Let’s take a closer look.

Project Management Companies and Consultants

One of the most important roles in a large-scale construction project like you’d see when a new stadium is being built or an existing one renovated, is the role of a project manager. The project manager is the be all, know all, and see all of the entire process. They are the hub, if you will, the one person who is making sure everything is flowing smoothly. When you look at the definition of a project manager’s duties, items such as defining the project, budgeting, building a work plan, managing workers and contractors all are mentioned.

They look after everything from the big decisions like bringing in the right contractors and materials, to all the smaller things like making sure the job site is not only safe but also provides workers with necessities such as on-site restrooms, restocking restroom parts when needed, handwashing stations, and even on-site temporary office space for workers.

Trained and Skilled Workers are Brought In

Then there is the fact that the work crews brought into these projects typically have a fair amount of skill, training, and experience. There’s a good chance they have handled at least similar projects in the past, which makes them much better equipped to handle the current one.

Now that’s not to say there isn’t turnover, as there are always going to be new workers on these jobs, but they tend to be in the entry-level and labour-intensive positions rather than the supervisor and management roles.

There is a Set Plan and Timeline

Because these projects are so massive with such huge budgets, tight deadlines, and very specific steps required, there is also a detailed plan and timeline that is created in advance. This plan and timeline is something that is referred to at all points of the project, with careful tracking.

Site supervisors, foremen, and managers are hyper-aware of how important it is to do jobs in sequence and on time. If the plan is ignored, this is when mistakes happen, the timeline gets thrown off, and it can all end up affecting the budget in a negative way.

Plenty of Big Stadiums to Watch For

As for what big stadium projects are currently taking place in the United States, there is a number to keep an eye on. These include the Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas which will be the new home of the MLB Texas Rangers; Las Vegas Stadium, a domed stadium which will house the Las Vegas Raiders (NFL) and the UNLV Rebels Football Team; and the Los Angeles Stadium at Hollywood Park where the Los Angeles Chargers and the Los Angeles Rams (NFL) will play.
